Did we dare to sit in the darkness of an underground crypt, with the dead bodies of ancestors surrounding us? What was there to fear?

What does it feel like to trust a stranger enough to be guided, in the dark, around an unknown space. To have your hand led over foreign surfaces, to brush a cobweb with your forehead, to feel the warmth of a flame, to sniff the damp smell of earth? What is there to fear?

What does it feel like to chant together, in a dark crypt, the words of Wendell Berry? 'To go into the dark with a light, is to know the light. To know the dark, go dark. Go without sight, and find that the dark, too, blooms and sings, and is travelled by dark feet and dark wings.'

It feels safe. With edges. Safe enough to risk a final game of sardines. Hiding alone in a dark underground cavern surrounded by bones, waiting for your companions to find you.
